Can’t wait to get into the comic shop today. I saw that dc is FINALLY reprinting the Green Lantern: Willworld series by J.M Dematteis and artwork by Seth Fisher.  Fisher is one of my favorite artists ever, and I have only read two series by him.  I first discovered Seth Fisher when I read Fantasic Four/Iron Man:Big In Japan.
I can’t even begin to explain the story of the comic, but the bizzareness fits Fisher’s artwork. His artwork is remiscent of Geof Darrow, huge splash pages with a ton of things going on at once and colorful, cartoony looking characters.  So him getting to draw a ton of giantatic godzilla type monsters, their insides, and the heroes explorations of said insides made the whole thing a blast.  There are so many single panels in that comic that garner a laugh simply because Fisher’s monster designs are so strange (I will never forget the cow fish raptor things).
I was shocked when I found out Fisher died shortly after Big In Japan finished up(in early 2006). Just looking at that cover alone should tell you that he definitely had a big career ahead of him. There is still no one in the industry who has ever managed to make me laugh and smile curiously at a monster like he did.   It is about time DC republished Willworld so more people(AND ME) can see his work.
